WordPress.org vs WordPress.com

Many of our users who are just starting WordPress, or are just starting out with websites in general, have been asking us about the differences between the .com and .org version of WP. It can be quite confusing just starting out and having to go through all of this information at once. Just to be clear – HostAwesome provides hosting for the .org version of WordPress.

Here’s a comparison infographic of the two, from wpbeginner.com

As you can see, the .org self-hosted version of WordPress offers much more flexibility in what you’re able to do with your website.

One of the big reasons that people choose the .com over the .org is because it’s much simpler. You don’t have to worry about hosting, maintenance, etc, and the options you’re given are much simpler. With that, you lose the control and flexible of making your website.

But if you’re hosted with us here at HostAwesome, you don’t have to worry about the drawbacks and can just reap all the benefits of having a self-hosted site. We take care of the security, and any problems that you might have will be resolved after simply opening a ticket. Furthermore, we offer a completely free plan to start, so you don’t even have to worry about the cost of having a self-hosted WP site!
